Purple and Rellow

Ever since she first started talking, Elise has been very adamant on her two favorite colors being purple and yellow "rellow".

Lately, Elise has been very interested in my knitting.  She takes note when I am wearing a sweater and always asks if I knit it.  The answer always seems to be "no".  She has also taken an interest in what I will be knitting for her, and is going as far as requesting different knit items.

From what I hear, this stage doesn't always last, so I have decided to try to take advantage of her interest while it is still there.  So when Elise asked for a pair of hand knit socks, it was time for a special shopping trip (never mind the fact that my feet have never actually been inside a pair of hand knit socks... maybe soon!).

And I was not surprised in the least when this purple yarn was chosen and came home with us.  It's actually a little darker and a little more grape-like than the picture lets on.

A true Elise purple.

Of course I tried to sell her on my interpretation of purple, but it didn't work.

Eh, looks like I win since it still came home with us.

So wish my luck- I haven't been much of a sock knitter in the past years.

What's your favorite way to knit a sock?

Baby A

Wow.  This weekend we celebrated my nieces first birthday, and it reminded me of a post that I never did publish.  As I looked through old posts, to verify this fact, I found this draft sitting in with the rest of my posts.  Funny how one year can go by so fast and so slow all at once.

It's almost hard to see this squishy-faced little newborn in the little girl who independently stuffed her face with cake and ice cream this weekend.

"The days drag on but the years fly by."
This seems especially true when little ones are around, but finding an unpublished post like this reminds me even more.

Finished Before February

And there we have it, with hours to spare before "Selfish Knitting Month" even ends!

This project was absolute bliss to work on.  There's something about colorwork that draws me in.  Every stitch creates more of the big picture.  Stitch repeats become ingrained in your mind as the knit grows.

Pure satisfaction.

And since I have a few hours left...

Selfishly Knitting Away

In the past, I have been a big supporter of Selfish Knitting Month- this January has been no different.

A couple weeks ago I had to jump a flight to Phoenix for work.  Usually this long(ish) flight bums me out a bit, but with a freshly cast on color work mitten in tow, I was ready to fly the friendly skies.

In Detroit, my mitten looked a little something like this:

In Phoenix, I had a completed right mitten:

Surprisingly, I did put my one mitten to use in the mornings and evenings.  When the sun goes down, it gets pretty chilly, and I wasn't quite prepared.

For the flight home I cast on mitten number 2 and had the complete pair by the time we landed.

The pattern is Northman Mittens by David Schulz and it's been a dream to knit.  Selfish knitting at its finest.

Even the innards are beautiful.

Before you go thinking I'm finished- they actually get a lining.  Last week unfortunately involved no knitting in my life, but this weekend I was able to bust out the lining for my right mitten.  I'm hoping to start in on my left lining tonight and finish the pair before January is over.

And if I have a few selfish days left, I may have to find a use for my Greenfield Village yarn that I was gifted for Christmas.  Any ideas?
