Clara in Clara

Three and a half years ago, I wrote a post entitled, "Elise in Clara".  How fun to follow up with "Clara in  Clara".

As you can tell, Clara has been enjoying her turn in handknit hand-me-downs, but I am thinking I will have to knit her her own "Clara Dress", not just because of the name, but because it is about my favorite little knit dress ever.  I'm thinking something for winter, maybe in a hand dyed grey yarn?

And because it's so fun to compare and contrast, here's Elise back in January of 2011:

Oh, how time gets away from us.

Christmas in July?

Haha- I made it!  I got Clara in this little number while it was still July, and even managed to share some photos here (that's something to be proud of, right?).

This outfit was originally knit for Elise for her first Christmas.  She was about one month old, Clara here is about 6 weeks old.  As a comparison, here is her big sister:

The pattern was adapted from a Dale of Norway Pattern (Baby Voss) which started as a long sleeve onesie but ended up as a short sleeve dress.  You can read more about the pattern, yarn, needles, etc. by reading the original post- found here.

One thing that seems to be a theme while taking pictures these days?  I can't seem to get any of just Clara.  It seems we have two professional photobombers living in our house.  Funny how they refuse when I actually ask to take pictures of them, huh?

But, you, reader of this blog, now get the pleasure of viewing "the outtakes":

And wait for it...

Classic.

Can you believe tomorrow is August?  Enjoy Christmas in July while you still can!

Updates

Time flies when you're having fun, no?!  This summer has been a whirlwind of family time and exciting events, travels and meet-ups.  I've been doing my best to take advantage of my maternity leave, and enjoying the time at home with the kids.

Speaking of which, we celebrated the arrival of our third child last month (almost two weeks late, little stinker!).  Clara came in to the world on June 9, weighing in at 7lbs, 5 ounces.

She has been welcomed home with more toddler kisses and hugs than we could have ever imagined (not to mention the occasional eye-poke  or dropped toy on head, it comes with the territory I suppose!).  The best news yet?  Turns out she loves handknits (for now, at least!):

When Clara was about a week and a half old, we packed up the minivan and headed for the East Coast.  It was a long trek with three little ones, but a week in Maine was both a relaxing and adventurous trip.

Clara is now 7 weeks old, and maternity leave is over halfway over.  So for now, I'm relishing these moments- soaking up memories and enjoying a season of sweet cuddles with minimal outside distractions.

And- oh, yes- there has been knitting!

My Babies Don't Come 'til the Knittin's all Done!

At least that's what has been true in the past.
And although I'm not completely finished with baby #3's coming home outfit, I'm confident that I would be able to finish things up post delivery. So (little wee one): just in case you were waiting for this- it might be in your best interest to know- we're ready for you!

New Pattern Release- Ore Creek Hat and Cowl Pattern

Since we now seem to be in a holding pattern in our home; waiting on the late arrival of baby number three, I decided there was no better time to release my new hat and cowl pattern.

Many of you have been asking about the baby blanket pattern that I was knitting for our new little one, and although it's not written as a pattern (yet), it utilizes the same stitch pattern seen here in the Ore Creek Hat and Cowl.

I fell in love with the texture of this simple repeating cable pattern, and it has kind of taken over my knitting in the past few months.

A couple months ago I wrote to Sarah (aka The Plucky Knitter) to ask about her new yarn base, Scholar.  I told her I was looking for a rustic orange/brown color and she sent a few skeins of  of the Sticky Toffee colorway.  I could not have been more pleased (with the yarn, the color, the feel)- amazing!

Now I know you may not see a ton of hat and cowl patterns released in the beginning of summer, and although I considered waiting to release these patterns closer to autumn, I ultimately decided that there's still a need for small hand knit accessories in summer- no?!

Sometimes in summer we still need a bit of warmth.  Early morning tent camping- s'mores are just a memory, the bonfire from last night is now just warm ashes, and there's a layer of chilly dew on all your belongings (not to mention what said dew does to your 'do).

Plus, if you want to get ahead of the game, a small project is easy to bring along in the summer heat.  So, without further ado, I give you the Ore Creek Hat and Cowl Pattern!

You can find it (along with more info) on Ravelry here.
