Legacy

After much secrecy, I’m pleased to finally present my new pattern.

As mentioned before, Legacy was designed for Knit Culture.  It debuted last weekend at Vogue Knitting Live in LA.  Although I didn’t have the opportunity to make an appearance, I’m glad I had my sample knit there as representation.

I’ve always been much more of a wrap girl than a shawl girl (any others out there?) and I wanted to design a piece that could be worn as a scarf with a heavy wool coat or as a stand-alone wrap.  You know- the knid that β€œmakes” your entire outfit in the fall.

Working with Madelinetosh Pashmina was a dream.  It took this simple wrap to a whole new level.  The pool, the drape-  the design in my head for an everyday wearable stole was transformed to a luxury everyday wearable stole (something only a special blend of hand-dyed merino, silk, and cashmere can do).

If you are wondering where you can get your hands on the pattern, it is currently being sold exclusively at Knit Culture as a kit (that’s right- with the beautiful yarn).  The word on the street is that all the new exclusive patterns (check out all the other designers here) should be up by the end of the day today- I’ll be sure to update here with the link when it is available.
Already have the perfect sportweight yarn ready in your stash?  The pattern alone will be available online as a pdf download at then end of next month (don’t worry, it won’t come without an announcement).

Update:  The kit is now available (in 14 amazing colors) here.

Headwrap Tutorial

Now that the weather is getting chilly here in Michigan, my handknits have been on display daily.  One of my go-to's is my Anthropologie Inspired Plaited Headwrap.  And when she's not trying to pull it off of her little head, Elise even gets some use out of it!

Recently I was contacted by Christine of iKnits about featuring my slippers on her youtube channel.   She did such a wonderful job that when she asked for suggestions for other videos I told her that if she wanted to do a video tutorial of how to assemble my plaited headwrap I would be much obliged.

Not only did Christine put together a tutorial on assembling the headwrap, but she went above and beyond, explaining each step of the pattern- from casting on, magic loop, and binding off. So, if you are a new knitter looking for a simple project, this is perfect for you.  Thanks, Christine!

ps...you can find the link to this video here, and for future reference, I have added it to my "tutorials" tab above.

Owlet

Success!  Did Elise have a new sweater to wear to Greenfield Village?

You bet!

 Did we have a blast?

 For Sure!

The sweater went so fast, probably about 4-5 hours of work.  I would have liked to put buttons all the way around, but I didn't have the time or the buttons.  I will try to go out on a button search later this week.  I am a fan of the small purple buttons I did have, maybe I can find more?

D.E.A.K.

Maybe it was just something that was popular in my time*, or maybe it was even a regional thing, but Friday afternoons at round Elementary school always had some time reserved for DEAR- Drop Everything And Read.

It's a lovely concept, but admittedly, I have never implemented such a thing into my adult life. Finding time to read means a visit to audible.com to find an audio book to listen to while I drive or knit.

So, today I will keep the concept, but change it to fit my lifestyle (well, sort of).  Somewhere between deciding with a friend that we would be going to Greenfield Village tomorrow and... oh, well... sanity- I decided that Elise needed a cute new sweater to wear.

And although I would truly like to DEAK (Drop Everything and Knit), I have to be honest with myself. I still have a 8 hour workday ahead of me.  Oh yeah, and a baby to take care of with a husband that will be out of town (remember that sanity I was talking about- yeah, I lost that due to knittin' brain).

So now, the only thing stopping me from yet another ridiculous self-imposed goal is time and that ball of yarn.  Can I do it??

*In this case- 'my time' refers to elementary school in the late 80's/early 90's
