In Absence

The least I can do is explain what I have been up to this week. The basement is almost finished. The problem is, I'm learning that "almost finished" can be a very long process.

Also, I am working hard to launch my baby bootie pattern. Since we're now approaching summer, I figure it's a good time for some baby knits. The felted baby booties were originally a knitted item I sold in my Etsy shop. Designing something to make myself and writing a pattern for others to use are completely different things, so this process is also taking a bit of time.

What's keeping you busy these days? Any big projects on your plate?

More Details

The new craft room is moving right along (hopefully all the construction will be finished by the end of today!) and I have been quite busy making decisions on how to furnish the very open space.

Have you ever seen the Pottery Barn Bedford Project Table?

I have always considered it an ideal workspace, but the price tag plus added shipping always stops me from purchasing. It seems others have the same issues as I do as I have found many other ideas for a similar table that people have suggested.

Here's one for $549 from AVthinginitsplace.com:

You can find details on how to make your own project table for under $150 here:

As for me, I will be trying to rig up somthing similar using cabinitry from Ikea. I'm trying to make final decisions now, and will hopefully be ordering by the end of the week.

How about you, what is your ideal workspace? Where do you currently do most of your artsy/crafty work?

Darn That Sock!

Well, at least the second one. Last week I was traveling for work and decided it would be the perfect opportunity to make my first pair of socks (I know, I know... it's about time). I wanted to do the socks at the same time on circular needles, but it turned out that I did not have the adequate needles.

With a skein of Colinette Jitterbug and 4 double pointed needles in hand, it was safe to head to the airport.

The socks started for myself. I began at the toe, and when I tried them on, they were a bit loose. I'm not a fan of loosy-goosy socks, so they quickly turned into a gift for Joe. Even though I was in meetings all week, and had very limited time, I managed to finish the first sock the evening I arrived at home.

This week I have a little more free time, and guess what I can't seem to finish? If only I could have done both socks at the same time. I'm sure I would have paid top dollar for size 1 circular needles the night before I left for my trip...

Moral of the story? All airports should have yarn shops!
