Socktober is Over...

But before it ended, I did get a chance to cast a pair of socks on to the needles.

I'm not exactly sure what Socktober is- I think it is some sort of knitting event (because I have seen reference to it pop up in my Google Reader quite a bit in the past few weeks), but I just like the name.  That's right- I liked hearing 'Socktober' so much that it compelled me to start a pair of socks.  Furthermore, these socks will be for the purpose of keeping my toes toasty once they are finished.  This will be my first pair of handknit socks- time to see what all of the fuss is about.

The pattern is Spring Socks by Eveli Kaur (find her blog here).  The yarn- that's right, Noro Kureyon.   Being my first experience working with Noro, I have mixed feelings.  Despite the fact that I  am knitting with it, I still feel a little hesitant about using it.  I'm not ready for a sweater or shawl, but for this pair of socks- I find it perfect.  I do finally understand the Noro color fuss. It's kind of like reading a good book, there have been a few nights I've had a hard time going to bed because I wanted to see how the color would change.  Really.  Ok, I just realized I have a problem.

Unfortunately, it may be a while until we see these again. While I was working the yarn for my Sheep Yoke cardigan (for Baby FPK to come home in) finally arrived.  Here's a picture of the ever-so-gender-neutral colors in case you have forgotten:

** For those of you wondering about the large circular needle, I started using magic loop in the past couple months and am actually thoroughly enjoying the technique.  Just goes to show everything is worth a try.

Great Oaks From Little Acorns Grow

Nope, he's not ours- did I fool you?

Last week our good friends welcomed a new son and I finally got to meet the little guy yesterday.  I have been eager to share this Little Acorn Hat with you ever since I whipped it up, and now I finally can!

I purchased this pattern and yarn while attending the Lansing Area Shop Hop in September.  The hat was simple and fun, such a satisfying quick knit.  The pattern is by Meg Croft, you can find her here.

Have You Heard?

This Thursday evening there will be a southeast Michigan Crafter's Meetup.  I'm so excited I saw this post last week, I am planning on going and looking forward to it.  If you are within driving distance of Livonia, You should make the trek over!  Find more details here (and make sure you RSVP to the above email address by tomorrow!).

For Those Wondering...

I did come up with a (very) last minute pregnant Halloween costume.  Although I loved the idea of being Violet from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Joe liked the mummy (mommy) suggestion, a long Friday afternoon teleconference left me with very little time to do anything.  I was left with five minutes to run into Target on the way to the party and came up with this:

Not gonna lie- I was pretty proud of myself for coming up with this (and all I needed was a fat Sharpie and white T-shirt.  I then 'made' the costume while sitting in the car in the driveway of the house the party was at).  First person to figure out what I was wins (you don't actually win anything- but you will have the satisfaction of winning.  How's that for taking you back to 'things you heard when you were a kid'?).

*hint: It does have something to do with pregnancy

HELP!!

Tonight (yes, tonight!!) I have a Halloween party to attend.  It's not your typical Halloween party. Actually, the point of the party is to play cards (us Bernardi's... we're card sharks- if you can call Euchre players card sharks).

Joe and I play Euchre once a month with the same 12 people- card club.  In October, it is tradition to dress up in a Halloween costume for card club.  Problem is, I haven't given it much any thought.   Last year I did the same thing.  An hour before the party, I threw on some khaki shorts, yellow t-shirt, and found a large bucket to stand in.  I was the infamous YouTube Grape Lady.  Problem is, only a couple people had seen the video.

So this year there's even more of a twist- I'm eight months pregnant.  I'm sure many of you have been pregnant for Halloween and I need your suggestions.  I've browsed the internet, I'm not seeing a whole lot of options.  What's your favorite prgnant Halloween costume?  Links, pictures, stories; I want anything you've got. Ok...... GO!

PS... I don't find any inspiration from the above photo- there are no plans to paint and expose my large abdomen at this time :)
